Carnuntum Academy: Show me where you grow (EN)
13 września,11:00 - 12:00 CEST
Beneath the calm, serene landscape of Carnuntum lies a turbulent geologic process that has developed extraordinarily diverse soil compositions over millions of years. Within its mere nine hundred hectares under vines, Carnuntum offers an enormous variety of soils: formations range from limestone and slate to gravel, loam and loess, all the way to colluvium. Each type of soil inspires the top regional red varieties Zweigelt & Blaufränkisch to manifest distinct and contrasting characteristics.
Differences between wines from Ortswein (village wine) vineyards and those from single vineyards (Rieden, which are usually a little higher in elevation) are quite striking. Caro Maurer MW will lead participants on an exciting journey through the fascinating geologic diversity of Carnuntum.
About Carnuntum Academy
The Carnuntum Academy is an initiative created by winegrowers from Carnuntum, designed to give wine industry professionals (hospitality, import, trade & press) the opportunity to continue their education in an uncomplicated and efficient manner. Distinguished speakers, together with winegrowers, will guide participants through the individual sessions, which will be held in German and English. In the first year of the Carnuntum Academy, a great deal of attention will be paid to Zweigelt, since it is celebrating two significant anniversaries in 2022. Exactly 100 years ago, the grape variety was first created with the name »Rotburger«. The eponymous wine Rubin Carnuntum – which was also bottled for the first time thirty years ago – can look back on a unique success story as a regional branded wine.
